Most of my job is meeting new people, new families, new faces and getting to know them as the year goes on. I see their family grow, new babies, kids getting big. I love it, I love it all. It's so much fun.
Sometimes, I get to come in at the very beginning.
When I first met Claire and Josiah, they had booked me for some anniversary pictures. We instantly connected and the session was so fun - one of those sessions where the time gets away from you amid chatting and laughing. They shared with me that they had suffered three miscarriages on their journey and were still trying to have a baby. (See more of her story on her instagram: @_hopefulsparrow_)
Several months later, I took pictures of Claire's sister, Stacy @ourlucaslife, and her sweet family. Stacy told me that Claire was pregnant! I hadn't seen them in months, but I immediately (literally in the middle of Stacy's session) texted Claire and told her how excited I was for her! After hearing about their fertility struggle, I knew how happy she must be and I was happy for her.
Next came her maternity pictures, and I was there to photograph her birth, newborn Norah, and so many sessions since! It's amazing being a photographer, I meet so many people I may not have met, and we become friends.
And now, as of April 12, Norah is one.
I can't believe how much she's grown! She's such a sweet girl. It definitely doesn't seem like a year since she made her debut. After photographing her and her family for so long, I get so excited to see them again and again, and be a part of their family's memories.
Keep these guys in your thoughts and prayers - their road is still a tricky one. Claire suffered another miscarriage last month. Send them all the baby juju and good fertility vibes.
I love that I've been able to witness this family bloom. It's truly why I do what I do.
